Under the “Suthra Punjab” vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, work on the Model Village Project is progressing rapidly in Vehari district, with practical steps being taken to provide modern basic facilities to rural areas.
Deputy Commissioner Vehari Khalid Javed Goraya visited Chak No. 91 WB and Chak No. 81 WB, where he reviewed the pace and quality of ongoing development work under the Model Village Project. During the visit, the deputy commissioner directed the relevant officials to further accelerate work on the project.
He also met local residents and sought their feedback regarding the ongoing development activities under the Model Village Project. The residents expressed satisfaction over the work being carried out in their areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Khalid Javed Goraya said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is firmly committed to transforming villages into model communities. He said the basic objective of the Model Village Project is to provide modern facilities to rural populations, promote rural development and improve the quality of life of citizens.
According to the district administration, 14 model villages are being developed in Vehari district at a cost of Rs1.895 billion. Under the project, work is underway on the provision of basic facilities including water supply, drainage systems, wastewater treatment, children’s parks, paved streets and streetlights.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Deputy Director Development Muhammad Afzal, Assistant Commissioner Vehari Anum Akram, Divisional Coordinator Model Village Aurangzeb and other officials were also present during the visit.

On the directives of Lahore Development Authority Director General Tahir Farooq, the LDA Town Planning Wing carried out a major operation against illegal commercial buildings and commercial fee defaulters, sealing a total of 158 properties in different areas falling within the LDA controlled jurisdiction.
LDA teams conducted operations in Gulberg, New Garden Town, PIA Scheme, Gulshan e Ravi, Gujjarpura, Canal Road, Samanabad, Shadbagh and Sabzazar. During the crackdown, several properties were sealed over illegal commercial use, violation of approved land use and non-payment of commercial fees.
According to officials, 23 properties were sealed in Gulberg and Garden Town over illegal commercial use, while action was taken against 76 properties in Gulshan-e-Ravi, Gujjarpura, Canal Road, Samanabad and Shadbagh. Similarly, 39 properties were sealed in PIA Scheme for illegal commercial use and non payment of commercial fees.
During a recovery operation, LDA teams also sealed 20 properties in Sabzazar. The sealed properties included private schools, halls, academies, bakeries, pharmacies, beauty salons, clinics, grocery stores, workshops, cloth shops, electric stores, restaurants, food points, shops, offices and other commercial units.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Chief Town Planner-I Asad uz Zaman and Chief Town Planner-II Azhar Ali. LDA officials said indiscriminate action against illegal commercial buildings and commercial fee defaulters would continue across the city.
LDA DG Tahir Farooq said illegal commercial use, violation of land use and non-payment of dues would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He directed the relevant officers to continue operations against illegal commercial activities in LDA controlled areas in a more effective manner.
