Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the Karachi Development Authority and the Local Government Department to speed up work on two major flyover projects planned for Power House Chowrangi and 4-K Chowrangi, as part of the provincial government’s efforts to reduce traffic congestion in Karachi.
The proposed projects, with a combined estimated cost of Rs. 4.87 billion, were reviewed during a high level meeting chaired by the chief minister at CM House. The meeting focused on ongoing infrastructure and road development schemes across the city, particularly projects aimed at improving traffic flow at major intersections.
According to the briefing, the proposed flyover at Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.5 billion. The project will include a 636 metre dual track elevated structure designed to separate through traffic from turning traffic at one of the area’s busiest junctions.
Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah informed the meeting that the Power House Chowrangi flyover would allow traffic heading toward 4-K Chowrangi to move without interruption, while vehicles turning toward Saba Cinema and Khwaja Ajmer Nagri would continue using ground level routes and service roads.
Officials said nearly 80 percent of through traffic is expected to use the elevated flyover once completed, significantly reducing pressure on the existing road network and improving movement for local commuters.
The meeting also reviewed the proposed Rs. 2.377 billion flyover project at 4-K Chowrangi. The project is aimed at ensuring smoother and uninterrupted traffic flow toward Surjani Town, where increasing traffic volumes have created frequent bottlenecks and long delays.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab told the meeting that around 70 percent of traffic passing through 4-K Chowrangi currently moves toward Surjani Town, making the intersection one of the key congestion points in the area.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the departments concerned to finalize planning for both projects and ensure that the flyovers are designed in line with future traffic requirements. He said Karachi’s growing transport needs must be addressed through long term infrastructure planning and timely execution of development schemes.

The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has recovered more than 25 acres of government land during a major anti encroachment operation in Surjani Town, officials said.
The operation was carried out in Sectors 10 and 13 under the supervision of KDA Director of State and Enforcement Shakeel Ahmed Khan. During the action, KDA teams demolished a number of temporary and permanent illegal structures, including unauthorized booking offices established on state owned land.
According to officials, the operation was part of a wider drive against illegal constructions and encroachments spread over more than 100 acres of government land in the area. The campaign was launched on Wednesday with the support of law enforcement agencies.
During the operation, KDA staff faced strong resistance from miscreants, who allegedly pelted stones and opened intense fire in an attempt to stop the enforcement action. Officials said the situation created serious challenges for the enforcement teams, but the operation continued without interruption due to the support of law enforcement personnel.
KDA Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to continuing action against land grabbers and encroachers without discrimination. He said no illegal occupation or encroachment on KDA owned land would be tolerated under any circumstances.
Officials said the recovered land will remain under the custody of the authority, while further action against illegal occupation and land mafia networks will continue in accordance with the law.
